SAVIR 2021 - AWARDS

At our 2021 Conference, the following Awards were presented - congratulations to all the winners!

 

Student Science Award:

Aditi Vasan, MD, with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia won the SAVIR Best Student Science Award for her abstract titled Neighborhood Gun Violence is Associated with Increased Mental Health-Related Pediatric Emergency Department Utilization. One reviewer highlighted her “innovative approach, with well thought out levels of distance and time, a technique that should be expanded upon” in the future. Another reviewer expressed appreciation "for including possible causal mechanisms, the relation to health equity, and implications for public policy!!!”

Science Award:

Tess Gilbert, MHS, with the VA Portland Healthcare System won the SAVIR Best Science Award for her abstract titled Validity of ICD-10-CM Diagnosis Codes for Traumatic Brain Injury in VA Administrative Data. Reviewers commented on her " clear methods presentation of sensitivity and specificity and the addition of important stratification for mild TBI.” Another reviewer praised her description of the "advantages and disadvantages of three TBI coding classifications and their implications.” 

Student Paper Award:

Congratulations to our #SAVIR2021 Student Paper winner! Kelsey Cornick is a predoctoral student @UW and a trainee with @HIPRC  and the Firearm Injury & Policy Research Program. Her paper: Extreme risk protection orders: Understanding the role of health professionals.
