West Virginia University (WVU) seeks a proven and dynamic leader who is an accomplished researcher in the fields of injury and/or violence control and prevention, to serve as the next Director of the WVU Injury Control Research Center (ICRC) – one of ten CDC-funded injury centers nationwide.  This recruitment is intended to facilitate a smooth transition in leadership, as the current Director will remain on the WVU faculty and will work closely with the new Director following selection of the successful applicant.  

The ICRC is located within the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center (HSC), in Morgantown, West Virginia Within the HSC, the ICRC is co-sponsored by the Schools of Medicine and Public Health.  The ICRC maintains a specific focus on serving the populations of West Virginia and the surrounding Appalachian region, and the associated injury priorities of drug overdoses and poisonings, motor-vehicle-related injuries, and falls among the elderly. Applicants with experience with these priority populations and expertise in these focus areas are highly desired and strongly encouraged to apply. WVU is a comprehensive, land-grant institution with approximately 22,500 undergraduates plus 6,600 graduate and professional students. The HSC includes the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and Public Health.  Patient care facilities include a 460-bed teaching hospital, a Level I trauma center, and a 70-bed psychiatric hospital.  Morgantown is within easy traveling distance of Washington, D.C., to the east, Pittsburgh, Pa., to the north, and Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio, to the northwest. 

As Director of the ICRC, the selected applicant will assume the role of principal investigator on our existing CDC-supported center grant (pending approval from CDC).  The Director has specific authority to carry out all requirements of the center grant and primary oversight for all aspects of the Center’s operation including its research agenda, training and education program, and community outreach activities. The Director is expected to lead a program that successfully integrates research, intervention development, evaluation and translation efforts in a holistic approach to fatal and nonfatal injury prevention.  The Director is also expected to maintain his/her own active research portfolio and guide the further development and expansion of the Center.  Candidates should have a record of excellence in research and teaching in relevant areas, as well as a track record of leadership within an academic setting.  The position comes with a competitive salary and start-up package.  A faculty appointment in an appropriate school and department within the WVU HSC will be provided, commensurate with the individual’s background and experience.
