The SAVIR conference plays a vital role in the dissemination of injury and violence prevention and safety promotion through cutting edge methods, research, practice, and policy. Gather your colleagues to submit a proposal for the 2020 SAVIR conference in Philadelphia April 27-29, 2020.

The theme of the SAVIR 2020 conference is:

Promoting Health Equity

through the Science of Injury and Violence Prevention 

Call for Proposals including Short Courses, Technical Workshops, and Topic Symposia.

(Regular contributed scientific sessions call will be released later in September)

Short Courses are slated for 4 hours on Monday morning before the conference (and possibly Wednesday afternoon after the conference). It is usually taught by one or more instructors on a topic of interest to Injury and Violence Prevention researchers and practitioners with (optional) hands-on practice time for attendees. If selected, up to two instructors per short course will receive complimentary conference registration, though more instructors are allowed. Instructors will also receive standardized course evaluations after the conference. Accepted short courses will need to meet the minimum number of registrants to be offered at the conference.

Technical Workshops provide in-depth technical information about a topic relevant to injury and violence prevention researchers, preferably methodological (technical) in nature. Technical workshops will run concurrently with other 90-minute conference sessions.  If selected, one instructor per technical workshop will receive complimentary conference registration, though more instructors are allowed. Instructors will also receive standardized course evaluations after the conference.

Topic Symposia are designed to provide attendees with an in-depth discussion,  an interactive experience or both related to a specific topic or theme. Individual speakers (up to 5) should offer unique perspectives on a specific central theme, possibly followed by a moderated, interactive scientific exchange involving the audience.  Topic symposia will run concurrently with other 90-minute conference sessions.  Topic symposia may address broad topics, but submissions focused on the conference theme of “Promoting Health Equity through the Science of Injury and Violence Prevention” are especially encouraged.  Collaborations from varied disciplines or research groups/institutions are welcomed.  Presenters will not receive complimentary conference registration or course evaluations. 

For all of these special sessions, SAVIR welcomes proposals on diverse topics including sessions on design innovations, practice, policy, methods related to different injury and violence mechanisms, analytical strategies, advocacy, and theory.

SAVIR conferences have provided a unique forum for participants to learn, exchange, and build upon the disseminated ideas to improve health and safety. The goal of these special sessions is to create an interface between methodologists and practitioners to exchange new ideas, research, and solutions to broader equitable health. We want to reach out to potential participants from different backgrounds including but not limited to students, practitioners, policymakers, and researchers.

The deadline for these special session proposals is November 1, 2019. 

Proposals:

Proposals should include motivation, proposed content(s), objectives and competencies, and the potential target audience of the session, as well as short instructor bio-sketches.

Evaluation of proposals will consider the clarity of the abstract (up to 500 words), the experience of the session proposers, relevance to the conference theme, how the workshop or tutorial will complement and enhance the scientific program, and adherence to the submission guidelines.

All proposals for the conference must be received electronically no later than November 1^st, 2019. The SAVIR Program Committee will notify applicants regarding the status of their proposals by November 15th, 2019. If accepted for presentation, the presenting author(s) agree to present their proposal at the 2020 SAVIR Meeting.  The lead author and all collaborating speakers must register to attend the 2020 SAVIR Meeting.

Yes, you can submit more than one proposal.

How well does the proposal need to be formulated?

A well-developed proposal with all the speakers in place is welcome and preferable. But, it will not hurt if you have a cutting edge idea with some speaker(s) and rest to join later. The committee will look at all proposals and might contact similar proposals to see if they want to or can work together.
