    Indiana University School of Medicine and Indiana University Health Physicians seek a strong academic leader for the Director of Research in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health. Candidates must be board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine or dual trained and board certified in Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics, eligible for licensure in the State of Indiana and have a background in leadership, scholarship and teaching. Demonstrated leadership ability is essential. Experience working in a culturally diverse environment is highly preferred. This individual will be responsible for developing a research program within a group of approximately 26 pediatric emergency medicine faculty who staff the emergency department at Riley Hospital for Children and provide educational oversight for our robust community of learners, including medical students, categorical Emergency Medicine, categorical Pediatric and combined program residents and our Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellows. Reporting to the Division Chief, the Director of PEM Research will lead the research efforts of the division.


    Riley Hospital for Children is Indiana’s only comprehensive children’s hospital, with experts in every pediatric specialty, and is the only hospital in Indiana that is nationally-ranked in U.S. News & World Report’s 2014-15 editions of Best Children’s Hospitals. Riley is home to Indiana’s only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, Pediatric Burn Unit and Pediatric Dialysis Program. The emergency department’s annual volume is over 47,000. In addition to the Riley hospital clinical venue, division faculty provide care at several other all-comer Emergency Departments with a combined census of over 200,000 patients annually. This unique paradigm provides exciting opportunities for research across multiple facilities.

    The Center for Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Colorado is seeking qualified candidates for 2-3 new positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor focusing on empirical research in bioethics and/or health humanities.


    The primary role and responsibility for these new faculty will be conducting empirical research in bioethics and/or health humanities that is worthy of and successful in obtaining external funding, presentation at national and international professional meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals.  Other responsibilities will include patient care for clinicians, teaching and service to the institution. Faculty appointments will be made in the appropriate department(s) based on candidates’ professional background and areas of interest. 


    QUALIFICATIONS

    • A doctoral degree (MD, JD, PhD, ScD, DPH, etc.) and experience commensurate with rank in bioethics and/or health humanities research;
    • Demonstrated competence in one of more research methodologies including intervention research, surveys, qualitative research (individual and focus groups), mixed methods, case studies, experimental designs, meta-analyses, systematic reviews,  quantitative analysis of large datasets, and anthropological approaches;  
    • Formal training in ethics and/or demonstrated familiarity with current and historical issues in bioethics and/or the health humanities;
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated effectiveness in grant-writing;
    • For candidates who have yet to receive a K award (or similar research training support), a willingness to participate in collaborative grant writing with the aim of receiving a K award (or other research support) within 1-3 years.
    • For candidates who have completed a K award (or similar research training support)  a willingness to transition into R01 or R21 level funding within 1-3 years

    The Violence Prevention Research Program (VPRP), a unit of the Department of Emergency Medicine in the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is seeking to fill a faculty position at the Assistant Professor/Assistant Professor in Residence level. The focus of this position is on the design and execution of large-scale observational and experimental research on the individual and societal causes, consequences, and prevention of firearm violence and other forms of violence.


    As an Assistant Professor/Assistant Professor in Residence, this faculty member will be responsible for independent research, collaborative research, teaching, mentoring, and public and university service. Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in epidemiology, medicine, or a related discipline. Additional training during a formal post-doctoral fellowship is desirable. There must be an established record of independent and collaborative research on violence, including firearm violence. There must be three recent peer-reviewed publications and demonstrated experience in the design, conduct, and reporting of large-scale observational and/or experimental studies. Some of this experience must be at the leadership level. Success as a Principal Investigator in attracting extramural funding for research on firearm violence is required.

    The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Institute for Trauma Recovery (UNCITR) is searching for a PhD-trained researcher interested in developing an NIH-funded research career focused on better understanding and improving the lives of teenage girls and/or adult women experiencing sexual assault. The recruited investigator will have the opportunity to develop studies within the Better Tomorrow Network, the first ever large-scale research network dedicated to understanding and improving outcomes after sexual assault. The UNCITR serves as the Data Coordinating Center for the network. A researcher is sought to develop an NIH career development award and/or R-level funding performing observational and/or interventional studies that improve the recovery outcomes of teenage girls or adult women experiencing sexual assault.


    Faculty Responsibilities will be dedicated to developing their research work and grant funding. A portion of time can also be spent in clinical practice if the candidate desires, and joint appointments with other departments (e.g., psychology, psychiatry, school of public health) are also possible.


    Required: PhD in a related field (i.e., psychology, social science, public health, etc.).


    Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of trauma survivors, and evidence of outstanding potential for success in becoming a successful NIH-funded researcher (e.g., as demonstrated through educational and training track record, letters of reference, etc.).
