    The Violence Prevention Research Program (VPRP), a unit of the Department of Emergency Medicine in the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is seeking to fill a faculty position at the Assistant Professor/Assistant Professor in Residence level. The focus of this position is on the design and execution of large-scale observational and experimental research on the individual and societal causes, consequences, and prevention of firearm violence and other forms of violence.


    As an Assistant Professor/Assistant Professor in Residence, this faculty member will be responsible for independent research, collaborative research, teaching, mentoring, and public and university service. Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in epidemiology, medicine, or a related discipline. Additional training during a formal post-doctoral fellowship is desirable. There must be an established record of independent and collaborative research on violence, including firearm violence. There must be three recent peer-reviewed publications and demonstrated experience in the design, conduct, and reporting of large-scale observational and/or experimental studies. Some of this experience must be at the leadership level. Success as a Principal Investigator in attracting extramural funding for research on firearm violence is required.

    The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Institute for Trauma Recovery (UNCITR) is searching for a PhD-trained researcher interested in developing an NIH-funded research career focused on better understanding and improving the lives of teenage girls and/or adult women experiencing sexual assault. The recruited investigator will have the opportunity to develop studies within the Better Tomorrow Network, the first ever large-scale research network dedicated to understanding and improving outcomes after sexual assault. The UNCITR serves as the Data Coordinating Center for the network. A researcher is sought to develop an NIH career development award and/or R-level funding performing observational and/or interventional studies that improve the recovery outcomes of teenage girls or adult women experiencing sexual assault.


    Faculty Responsibilities will be dedicated to developing their research work and grant funding. A portion of time can also be spent in clinical practice if the candidate desires, and joint appointments with other departments (e.g., psychology, psychiatry, school of public health) are also possible.


    Required: PhD in a related field (i.e., psychology, social science, public health, etc.).


    Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of trauma survivors, and evidence of outstanding potential for success in becoming a successful NIH-funded researcher (e.g., as demonstrated through educational and training track record, letters of reference, etc.).     Since 2008, the Journal of Injury & Violence Research (JIVR) has been a flagship publication in the field of Injury and Violence . JIVR  publishes original and significant contributions relating to the field of clinical and basic sciences about trauma, burns, drowning, falls, occupational/road/ sport safety, youth violence, child/elder abuse, child/elder injuries, intimate partner abuse/sexual violence, self-harm, suicide, patient safety, safe communities, consumer safety, disaster management, terrorism, surveillance/burden of injury and all other intentional and unintentional injuries.

     

    We invite nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief (EiC) for JIVR  for a 1-year term (option for renewal) beginning in the first half of 2018. The EiC’s duties include appointing Editors to serve across the scope of the journal; supervising the operations of the journal with the assistance of the JIVR publications staff; monitoring the quality and timeliness of publications; and leading development to strengthen the journal.

     

    Criteria for the Nominees:

     

    • Ability and motivation to spend sufficient time on the job;
    • Demonstrated competence in at least one of the disciplines included in the Injury and Violence field of interest;
    • Formal support from the institution for which the nominee works (waived if self-employed);
    • Has served or currently is serving on one of the editorial boards of injury and violence research;

    Summary:
    The Center for Injury Research and Policy, located in The Research Institute of Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking a full time Senior Research Associate to work on the newly funded injury research project focusing on sport-related concussion prevention and control among youth. The person in this position will conduct and coordinate research with the collaborators within and outside The Ohio State University, under the supervision of the principal investigator, Dr. Ginger Yang. The Center for Injury Research and Policy is one of 11 CDC-funded Injury Control Research Centers and focuses on the prevention of injury among children and adolescents. Its faculty members are active in injury research and prevention on local to global levels. Center faculty members teach and mentor students at The Ohio State University and from across the nation. Its global injury research program includes ongoing projects with its affiliate faculty in low- and middle-income countries and a visiting scholars program. Through multiple partnerships, the Center has established collaborative networks of injury professionals regionally, nationally and globally. A translational research team helps faculty members disseminate their research findings. Columbus, the state capital, is a vibrant, growing community located in Central Ohio. As the fifteenth largest city in the U.S., it boasts a blend of metropolitan attractions and nearby suburban and rural comfort.     Responsibilities:

     

    1. Develops and tests study protocols, surveys/instruments, and other data collection tools for the project.

    2. Coordinates and conducts study participant recruitment and study data collection.

    3. Performs data analysis, generates study progress reports and prepares manuscripts based on the results of studies.

    4. Coordinates meetings and ensures effective communications with study consultants, co-investigators, team members, and advisory committee members.

    5. Prepares study applications for the Institutional Review Board, and ensures projects are in compliance with federal and institutional policy.

    6. Assists in grant writing and preparation.

    3. Experience in preparation of research grant proposals and scientific publications.

    5. Experience in injury prevention and violence research or behavioral research.
