This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), located in Atlanta, GA.

Duties

As a Health Scientist (Extramural Research) you will:

  • Serve as a Health Scientist that is the Scientific Review Officer (SRO) in the Extramural Research Program Office.
  • Serve as the senior scientist responsible for the management, coordination, and conduct of scientific primary peer review for research grants and cooperative agreements.
  • Participate in establishing and implementing internal procedures to carry out responsibilities in the scientific review for research grants.
  • Serve as a senior advisor in formulating and administering plans and policies to meet critical program objectives.
  • Foster collaboration on cross-cutting scientific and programmatic issues to ensure conformance with objectives, missions and program initiatives of the agency.
  • Promote the quality of government-funded research

Qualifications

Basic Qualification Requirement for GS-0601:  Applicants must have successfully completed a full four-year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. 

IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE BASIC QUALIFICATIONS, Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. 

 Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties, to include experience related to the scientific and technical peer review or management and oversight of federal research grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts for public health programs.

Foreign Education: Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
