West Virginia University (WVU) School of Public Health, Injury Control Research Center, and Department of Epidemiology is offering a postdoctoral fellowship in Health Behavior Science.


Eligibility: A PhD in health behavior, health education, sociology, psychology or a related field, and experience in research with peer-reviewed articles


Features of the postdoctoral fellowship:

  • Responsibilities: apply the Integrated Behavioral Model or Theory of Planned Behavior to study the use of a cell phone app in reducing driver cell phone usage
  • Grant involvement in NIH- and CDC-funded R01 and R21 studies
  1. NIH R21: A phone app to reduce cell phone usage among young drivers: a pilot study
  2. NIH R01: Licensing laws, mobility, and traffic safety among older adults
  3. NIH R01: Do cell phone laws reduce calling, texting, and crashes among young drivers?
  4. CDC R21: Disparities in cell phone law effectiveness across population subgroups and geographic regions
  • Research opportunities and support from the WVU Injury Control Research Center (one of only 10 such centers funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention nationwide)
  • Faculty mentor: Motao Zhu, MD, PhD with multiple grants and excellence in teaching award
  • Opportunities to work with an epidemiologist, post-doctoral fellow, and doctoral and masters’ students
  • Education resources at the WVU School of Public Health and other schools
  • Opportunities for participating in workshops or taking summer courses nationwide
  • WVU School of Public Health is the recipient of the 2013 Chapter of the Year from Delta Omega, the honorary society for graduate students in public health
