Susan DeFrancesco

Susan DeFrancesco, JD, MPH, MAT is Research Assistant Professor at the University of New Mexico, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Prevention and Population Sciences. She has over twenty years experience in injury prevention. Her work has primarily included research and practice related to childhood injury prevention, the development and implementation of injury prevention laws and policies, and the role of health professionals and community activists in injury prevention advocacy.

Susan’s current research interests include the formulation of policies addressing the sale, distribution and promotion of alcohol and the evaluation of Safe Routes to School programs. She works on a wide range of injury issues including falls in the elderly, sexual violence, and pedestrian and bicycle injuries and serves as chair of the NM Injury Prevention Coalition and as a panel member of the NM Child Fatality Review. Her educational background includes a law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law, a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the Johns Hopkins School of Education.
