Information for Speakers


All presenters are reminded that it is essential to stick to the time allotted in the program. Check the schedule detail for your presentation time, date and meeting room location. Also, presenters, session organizers and moderators must register for the conference (full or one-day).


Poster Session Presentations

Date: Monday, September 18, 2017

Time: 6:15-8:00 PM


Poster Sessions will take place in the Michigan League Ballroom, Monday, September 18th. Presentations begin at 6:15pm and will run concurrently with our Opening Reception that concludes at 8:00pm.

  • The poster board will be horizontal, 4 feet wide by 3 feet tall, mounted on stands.
  • Posters are available for set up in the Ballroom between 12:00pm-4:00pm only.
  • Posters must be hung in advance of the scheduled session (at least one hour prior) and remain in place all day, even though presenters are only required to be present at their board from 6:15-8pm.
  • Boards are double-sided and numbered with your presentation (Abstract ID). Please hang your poster on the board with your assigned poster number.
  • Thumbtacks will be available on-site for mounting the displays.
  • A chair will be provided for each Poster Session presenter.
  • No audiovisual equipment is permitted for poster presentations.
  • All poster boards must be cleared in preparation for the next day, so presenters must remove their posters no later than 9pm following the conclusion of the poster session. Otherwise, they will be disposed of.

 

Flash Science Presentations

A flash talk provides you with the unique chance to attract the attention of a large number of participants to visit your poster and engage in longer discussion about your work. You are not there to provide the detail required for them to reproduce your work; you're there to inspire them to search out your work!


Date: Monday, September 18, 2017
Time: 5:15-6:15 PM

With a poster session to follow from 6:15 to 8:00 PM


The goal of the flash science presentations is to enable the audience to review many exciting ideas in a short period of time, and seek out corresponding posters for additional details during the poster session. The Flash Science Session will take place in the Mendelssohn Theatre. The session will begin with a brief introduction by the moderator followed immediately by presentations.

  • Please bring your presentation on a flash drive and be prepared to load it onto the computer in your meeting room prior to your session.
  • Oral presentations are 3 minutes – no exceptions!! The moderator will have a timer and at the conclusion of your 3 minutes you will be required to stop.
  • You should prepare 1 slide that includes any helpful visuals to be displayed while you give your oral presentation. It is advisable to have an additional title slide that includes your title, author names and any acknowledgements but not necessary.

You should also prepare a poster to be displayed concurrently with our Opening Reception. The poster should be prepared according to the following specifications:

Paper/Oral Presentations

Each presenter will have a total of 15 minutes, 10 minutes for the presentation of material and 5 minutes for Q & A. Each room is equipped with a computer, an LCD projector, a screen, microphone, and speakers. Please bring your presentation on a flash drive. All presenters are required to save their presentation slides and material (e.g., audio/video files). We also advise presenters to test the equipment well before their presentations.

  • Each session has 4 to 5 individual presentations according to topic.
  • Each presenter will have a total of 15 minutes, 10 minutes for the presentation of material and 5 minutes for Q & A. Please be respectful of your fellow presenters and stay within the time limits.
  • Each room is equipped with a PC computer, an LCD projector, a screen, microphone, and speakers. You should bring your presentation on a flash drive. All presenters are required to save their presentation slides and material (e.g., audio/video files) on the computer in your assigned room PRIOR to your session.
  • We also advise presenters to test the equipment well before their presentations.

 

Symposium Presentations

Date: Tuesday, September 19, 2017

Time: Time varies by session assigned (8:30-10am or 10:15-11:45am)

  • Each symposium is allocated 90 minutes total.
  • Moderators will be assigned to the symposium sessions but symposium leaders are responsible for organizing the presenters and making sure there is sufficient time for questions from the audience.
  • Each room is equipped with a PC computer, an LCD projector, a screen, microphones, and speakers. Please bring your presentation on a flash drive and load it onto the computer in your meeting room prior to your session.
  • We also advise presenters to test the equipment well before their presentations.
